The letters in TACE are taken from the first letters in each of our children’s names.
TACE Data Management Inc is an incorporated consultancy, established in July 2025. It was created partly in response to a job transition and available consultancy work - I needed a way to manage revenue properly. It has also become a source of learning in its own right. Owning a company often shapes the direction and structure of the personal projects you’ll find on this site.
where I am
I am in the middle of a deliberate transition. After 25 years specializing as an Oracle DBA, I started asking what comes next — and the answer has been to learn…and to build things while I learn.
Over the last few months I have been learning AWS, writing PowerShell automation, and using AI as a daily collaborator. AI is not a shortcut — it is a tool used to take on problems that would otherwise be out of reach for a single person working in their own time. This site is one of those problems.
The goal is not to leave the database world behind. It is to add to it — to become someone who can design and build the infrastructure, automate the operations, and understand the cloud environment databases live in.
where I was
25 years as an Oracle DBA — government and corporate clients, fully remote, mission-critical environments. The work covered the full stack of database operations: architecture, backup and recovery, high availability, security hardening, performance tuning, migrations, and licensing compliance.
A recurring theme was doing more with less — tighter timelines, leaner teams, higher stakes. That pressure is where most of the real learning happened.
